2013-03-26 Fitness Log: Bench, Snatch

Wendler 5/3/1 Cycle 4 Week 2

Bench: 197.5 x 3+: 4 😦

The tail of two bodies continues.  Today’s bench result was pretty much the exact opposite of yesterday’s squat result.  Just three weeks ago, I managed 5 reps at 205.  Today, I wasn’t even close to getting the 5th rep at 197.5.

Snatch

1 snatch balance + 1 overhead squat

45, 45, 65, 80, 95, 105, 110, 115

The drop on the snatch balances weren’t very deep.  It would probably be more accurate to describe these as behind the neck push presses followed by two overhead squats.  The 115 was particularly bad.  The goal is to get more comfortable with the drop and the weight overhead so still a good session.

Holding the 115 behind my neck, I realized that there was essentially no chance that I could strict press it.  It was surprising that this felt so heavy given that I could do 10+ reps at 115 with a normal strict press from the front.  This brings up the interesting question of whether some behind the neck press variant could help with overhead stability for the snatch.
