Wendler 5/3/1 Cycle 4 Week 3
- Warmup: 500 m row / 1:50
- Light OHS/snatch work with bar
- Squat: 265 x 1+: 4
- Bench 210 x 1+: 2
- 450 m run x 2 (between bench sets)
- Failed bench 1RM attempt at 230.
Well, this was a weird one. Squats felt bizarrely heavy today. Today’s 3 set was at 250 and I felt like I barely got the 3 reps out. Last week, I hit 8 reps at 250. After taking the full weekend off, I expected to come in revitalized but instead just felt week. Yesterday was Easter dinner which unfortunately means nothing but junk processed foods. I don’t work too well on processed junk foods so I’m going to chalk this up to a bad diet day. In the future, I really need to just eat on my own before and after events like this and then eat little there but it’s hard to resist a pile of cookies when they are sitting in front of me.
I decided after the poor squat performance to get this week’s bench work out of the way. Normally I bench on Tuesday but felt like doing it today. 2 reps at 210 isn’t great but isn’t bad either. I decided to go for a 1RM attempt at 230 and managed to get it off my chest a few inches but couldn’t get it to lock out. In retrospect, I probably should have just gone for 227.5 and probably would have had it. Or I should have stopped at 1 rep at 210 and then tried 230. Oh well. Next time.
