Fitness Log 2013-10-05: Overhead Squat, Clean & Jerk, Front Squat

Overhead Squat

  • 45 lbs x 5
  • 55 x 5
  • 65 x 5
  • 75 x 5
  • 85 x 5
  • 95 x 5
  • 105 x 5
  • 115 x X
  • 115 x X
  • 115 x 1
  • 125 x X

These felt really good up until 115 when the weight just felt heavy to hold overhead.  I would probably attribute that to still recovering from yesterday’s upperbody work.

As a positive, I’m starting to feel what it means to fight to hold on to the bar at the bottom.  In the past, anything but a fairly strict motion would throw me off balance but I felt this a few times and was able to fight it and recover.  Some progress.

Clean & Jerk

  • 135 lbs x 1/1
  • 165 x 1/1
  • 185 x 1/X
  • 205 x 1/X
  • 215 x 1
  • 225 x X

Nothing exciting here.  The jerks just weren’t working — probably also due to yesterday’s upperbody work.  I managed to rack the 225 but dropped it for some odd reason.

Front Squat

  • 135 lbs x 5
  • 205 x 3
  • 225 x 2
  • 245 x 1
  • 270 x X

Nothing exciting here.  The jump to 270 was big but I figured it was worth going for a PR since the 245 went up pretty easy.

Progress on the front squat seems to have slowed down since the aggressive increase from earlier this year.
