Fitness Log 2013-10-15: Squat, Good Mornings

Squat

  • 45 lbs x 5, 135 x 5, 165 x 5, 190 x 3
  • 225 x 3
  • 255 x 3
  • 290 x 3+: 5 (5RM PR)

5 at 290 is a 5RM.  My old 5RM was 285.  Not a huge deal but I’m happy about anything that looks like progress with the squat.

Good Mornings

  • 45 x 5, 135 x 5, 165 x 5, 165 x 5, 165 x 5

Ab Wheel

  • 5 from knees
  • 5 half-reps from standing

Yesterdays 3×5 from the knees with the ab wheel left me feeling some ab soreness today.  Of course, soreness isn’t a great indicator of anything but at least it is a sign that it did something so I did some more experimentation today.

The plan going forward is to do some sets from knees and some partial reps from standing.  Overtime, I’m hoping this will build up stability to the point where I can do full reps from standing.  Maybe standing reps up a ramp would be a useful experiment as well.

The half-reps started out from standing and went as far as I could go without losing stability.  I would say the hip angle was at about a 90 degree angle.  I probably should spend some time researching proper form on these things so I have some idea of how far to go.
